Disability Support Care in the time of Covid-19

Victoria is currently under stage 4 restrictions to help contain the spread of Covid-19. Here at Peer2Peer Mentors we are still providing quality disability support care to members of the community with careful consideration given to sanitation and social distancing.

So what are some activities you can do with your support worker under lockdown?

Here are some suggestions you could try!

  • Go for a socially distanced walk around the neighbourhood or to a nearby park- stay 1.5 metres apart and wear your face masks.

  • Propagate some plants together- collect some cuttings from around the neighbourhood and bring them home to grow in your own backyard or in a pot.

  • Do a winter clean! Get your support worker to help clear your space- sort though old clothes and belongings and donate what is no longer needed to charity.

  • Learn a new skill: Get your support worker to help enrol you in an online course that piques your interest- creative writing? Graphic design? Cooking?

  • Have a good old fashioned cup of tea and chat- feeling anxious about the pandemic? Nothing beats a heart to heart to help you through a difficult time.

  • Get your support worker to run your errands for you especially if you are immunocompromised or in a higher risk category.

  • Get your support worker to set up and help you understand how to use video calling- that way you can keep in touch with your friends and have appointments online.
